Restorative Dentistry Procedures

When teeth have decay, cracks, fractures, wear, and/or other damage, it is necessary to restore them to health using a variety of options. There is no one ideal treatment for all teeth, and treatment options are determined by the extent of disease present. Dr. L. Patrick Grisanti II strives to save each and every tooth and utilizes a wide range of restorative dentistry treatments, skills, and techniques to accomplish optimum function and esthetics for patients in Rockwall, TX.

Inlays and Onlays

Perhaps one of the most conservative treatment options, this procedure involves removal of a portion of the tooth and replacement with a bonded porcelain or composite restoration. This procedure allows for ultimate conservation of natural tooth structure while providing strength through direct bonding of the restorative material to the tooth.

Composite Fillings

Tooth colored fillings can help repair decayed or damaged teeth utilizing direct bonding to natural tooth structure. These can provide excellent durability and esthetics while providing added strength through bonding. Composite fillings durability is directly related to the size/extent of the restoration and many times a full coverage restoration is necessary to adequately restore the tooth.

All-Ceramic Crowns

The advent of increasingly advanced technology has made all ceramic crowns a durable and esthetic option for teeth with severe damage or decay. Many of the porcelain restorations rival the strength of porcelain-fused –to-metal crowns.

Porcelain Laminate Veneers

Many people desire a more attractive smile but have chipped, stained, discolored, or unevenly spaced front teeth. Many times porcelain veneers can provide the esthetics desired while preserving more natural tooth structure. A porcelain veneer is a thin layer of tooth colored porcelain that is bonded to the front of your existing tooth after conservative preparation. The process begins with a consultation to discuss your desires followed by a smile analysis and design. Once the details of your new smile are worked out, the actual procedure can usually be completed in two appointments.

Composite Veneers

Composite veneers provide similar results to porcelain veneers but are created in a single appointment using direct bond composite material. This can be a good alternative to porcelain veneers, but the longevity is not the same. Composite veneers have a much more limited lifetime and are more prone to staining, fracture, and failure. Nonetheless, excellent results can be obtained and dramatic improvements can be achieved in a single visit.

Porcelain-Fused to Metal Crowns

This type of dental crown combines the benefits of a precise fit of gold with the esthetics of porcelain. These restorations provide a durable and esthetic option when restoring severely damaged or decayed teeth.

Dr. Grisanti strives to save each and every tooth and utilizes a wide range of restorative dentistry treatments.

Gold Crowns

Although not used as frequently today as in the past, gold remains one of the most durable and long-lasting options for restoring severely damaged or decayed teeth. The decrease in use is due to limited esthetics.

Bridges

A bridge is a restoration that replaces one or more missing teeth by a fixed prosthesis. The teeth adjacent to a missing tooth/teeth is prepared for a full coverage restoration and joined with an artificial tooth replacing the missing tooth/teeth (called a pontic). A bridge can be fabricated out of gold, gold and porcelain, or all ceramic, depending on the location and length of the prosthesis.
